Worksite: National Historic Oregon Trail Interpretive Center (NHOTIC). NHOTIC is located 5
miles east of Baker City, Oregon, on Highway 86. NHOTIC is administered through the
Bureau of Land Management, Vale District Office.
Purpose: Provide an initial, welcoming presence to visitors entering the Center. Provide
assistance to visitors.
Timeframe: A schedule will be developed for each volunteer based on their availability.
Hours can be extremely flexible.
Number of Volunteers Needed: No Limit
Specific Duties: Greet visitors at the entrance to the Center. Answer questions regarding the
site, and make touring recommendations.
Qualifications/Skills: Outgoing, professional and friendly disposition. Ability to answer
questions accurately or seek assistance when required. Knowledge of Oregon Trail history
helpful. Knowledge of other regional attractions helpful. A background check may be
required for this position.
Training: NHOTIC will provide basic interpretation overview; Center orientation; Volunteer
Conduct, Rights and Responsibilities; Dealing with Difficult People; and Volunteer Safety.
Interpretive specialists will be available to provide guidance/assistance as needed.
Equipment: No special equipment is required.
