On Site and Outreach Interpretive Programs. Our trained
volunteer interpreters provide educational programs, traveling trunk
programs, or student activities for your group visit, or may be
available
to visit your classroom or meeting. Times are approximate,
or if no time indicate, the program can be adapted for your needs.

Current programs:
Miss Maudie's Dress Shop. The story of Miss Maude, a pioneer
grandmother with a vision for her own business in the Oregon County.
Maude's story is included in a presentation of reproduction garments
from early to mid-19th century. 45 minutes plus discussion time.
Life on the Oregon Trail. A traveling trunk filled with typical items
used by pioneers to survive on the westward trek. 30-45 minutes.

John Stewart:  An early pioneer on the Oregon Trail starts for
California, then changes his mind, comes to Oregon and settles in
Baker.
An Evening Chat: A grandmother comes west on the Oregon Trail,
leaving her children and grandchildren behind.  Her husband dies on
the trail and she must continue. Can be performance or interactive.
Early Pioneers: The Explorers, the early settlers, history of the
settlement of the west.
Mountain Men: Lots of historical replicas to touch and share, history
and stories of the men that opened the west, traded with the Indians,
and discovered the Oregon Trail.  
Pack Your Wagon: Interactive program on what to take to Oregon,
what was necessary, and what wasn't.
Scat, Tracks, Skulls and Furs: Just that - models of scat, tracks an
dfurs of animals of Oregon.


Educational Workshops.  A variety of workshops ranging from one
hour to one or more full days are available throughout the year
teaching pioneer crafts, natural history, genealogy and other topics
related to the Oregon Trail and eastern Oregon. Check the

Guided Tour or Interpreter at the Ruts. Although all exhibits at the
Interpretive Center are designed to be self guided, one of our
volunteer interpreters can provide a guided tour of the exhibits or an
interpreter to meet your group tour at the Ruts Access Trail on
Highway 86 to talk about the history of the Oregon Trail. Please
contact us for availability of this service.
