School group visits can be arranged at any time of the year, and are arranged on a first-come, first-served basis.
We offer a self-guided activity-based program that students can follow at their own speed, individually or in groups. We also offer living history interpretive programs, exhibits, multi-media presentations, and four miles of trails that interpret the Oregon Trail, natural history, and mining history. Please view this detailed packet for more information on our educational activities and recommendations for a successful visit.
Our education guide was updated in 2016, and contains five lesson plans for classroom or homeschool use.

Explorers Traveling Trunk
If you can’t come to the Interpretive Center, the Center will come to you. One of our interpreters is available on a limited basis to travel to your class (within 90 minute drive of Baker City) to present a living history presentation on explorers and fur traders, and the skills they needed to successfully complete their expedition.
Virtual Ranger Visits
We can also arrange for a Google Hangout with your classroom. Call 541-523-1843 for more information on either of these programs.
